Two Year Anniversary of Detention for Our Locally Employed Staff in Sana’a
Two years ago, U.S. Embassy Locally Employed staff members were detained without justification in Sana’a, Yemen. Today I want to speak directly to the families, friends, and colleagues of our Yemeni staff members who remain detained. We know that whether it is a holiday, or a wedding, or just having dinner together, you are missing your loved ones. You are making tough decisions, caring for your children, and working hard every day without them. We know that these two long years have been incredibly difficult, and I want to reassure you that we will unceasingly continue our diplomatic efforts to secure the release of all our detained Yemeni staff members. And we will continue to work to bring about a just and inclusive peace in Yemen so that all Yemenis can chart a brighter future.
