Statement of Group of Ambassadors Accredited to Sanaa

July 30, 2016

We note with concern the statement issued in Sanaa on July 28 by elements of Ansarallah and the General People’s Congress forming a Political Council which is not consistent with commitments and good faith in pursuing a peaceful resolution under the auspices of the UN in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions including UN Security Council Resolution 2216, the GCC Initiative and its Implementation Mechanism, and the National Dialogue Conference Outcomes. We emphasize that the talks currently taking place in Kuwait offer the best chance to reach a lasting peace agreement which will deliver security and economic growth to all Yemenis.

We call on all responsible parties to engage positively and effectively in Kuwait talks quickly reaching a sustainable solution that will aid in the creation of an environment that fosters peace and stability for the Yemeni people. We commend the delegation of the Government of Yemen and urge their continued efforts to find compromises and sacrifices that would bring about a peaceful resolution.

We express our strong support for the work of UN Special Envoy, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, and likewise express gratitude for the continuing contribution of the State of Kuwait in supporting the UN led talks.
